Summer and fungal infection

Summer means lot of sweat and problems associated with sweat like fungal infection. As fungi grow in hot, humid weather, during summer fungal infections are on the rise. Crowded swimming pools, beaches and gyms further increases the risk of fungal infection. Here are few tips to keep fungal infection in check,

  1. Take lukewarm water bath immediately after coming from outdoor.
  2. Wear loose, cotton, breathable clothes.
  3. Stay away from anti-bacterial or anti-fungal soaps, normal body wash or soap can do the job.
  4. Avoid loofah, as they can create micro-injuries in skin, compromising skin barriers, further increasing risk of fungal infections by allowing fungus to penetrate skin easily.
  5. Do not wear used clothes again without washing them.
  6. Do iron your all clothes, including inner wears from both the sides, this will help to kill fungus from your sweaty clothes.
  7. Avoid talcum powder application over skin folds, though powder absorb sweat i/v/o their hygroscopic nature, but the wet powder stays in contact with your body, creating humid condition, perfect for fungal growth. Instead of powder, use clean cotton cloth to wipe out your sweat.
  8. If you notice any rash over your body, do not treat it with over-the-counter medicines. These medicines can have steroid in them, which can give you temporally improvement after application, but in long run can damage skin and can worsen infection further. Better not to take any rash casually and visit qualified dermatologist to diagnose it accurately and treat it accordingly.
